Systems Test Engineer
Astro Digital designs, builds, and operates a diverse range of small satellite systems supporting space-based turnkey missions for several business applications, including earth observation, communications, in-orbit demonstrations, risk reduction, science, and exploration. Astro Digital is headquartered in Santa Clara, California with infrastructure around the globe.

Position Summary

With the Spacecraft Test team, you will join the design and production process, applying your experience to assure mission success. As Systems Test Engineer, your primary role will be to support requirements verification of satellite systems. This role includes carrying out, revising, and writing test plans and procedures; presenting results and feedback to designers and program management; and designing new hardware and software to support and improve the process.

As projects move from concept through design to production, you will help synthesize mission objectives into verifiable components. This involves frequent collaboration with the Design and Satellite Operations teams. In the process, you will build familiarity with some of the finest details of hardware and software implementation.

Attention to detail, grasp of both general and in-depth information, inquisitiveness, and patience are essential qualities of a person in this role.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Write and execute test plans for spacecraft components at all levels of integration, including fully assembled Flight Models
  • Analyze and present feedback on both the process and results to larger teams
  • Flow observations to the business development and engineering teams to support proposal work and inform future designs
  • Ensure test plans and procedures meet system requirements and evolving mission characteristics
  • Develop and operate test automation hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot anomalous test results and identify defects
  • Apply diligence to promote production efficiency, mission objectives, and above all, hardware and personnel safety
  • Seek out ways to creatively improve the Systems Test department
Qualifications

Required:
  • B.S. or M.S. in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, electrical, software), math, physics, or related field
  • ≥ 2 years' experience in testing, test engineering, or technical aspects of product design or production
  • Comfort executing, reading, and writing detailed procedures
  • Proficiency with lab electrical diagnostic and measurement tools (multimeters, scopes, sources, spectrum analyzers)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics
  • Proficiency writing object-oriented software such as Python
  • Familiarity with the Linux operating system
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to define and solve problems independently, tempered with experience to know when to seek input
  • Interest in collaborating with a first-rate, friendly team

Desired:

  • Environmental testing experience
  • Experience in aerospace, mass production, or test automation
  • Experience in electrical design, microcontroller operations, embedded systems
